A l’occasion du salon Monacophil 2022, l’association Art du Timbre Gravé disposait d’un stand de promotion de la création philatélique et de la gravure en taille-douce. A cette occasion , Daniel Piazza, conservateur philatélique en chef et historien américain, du Smithsonian National Postal Museum, de Washington DC, USA a adhéré à l’ATG.
Le National Postal Museum présentait une pièce philatélique rare au salon MonacoPhil, le 12 pence du Canada à l’effigie de la reine Victoria de 1851 (impression taille-douce par la société Rawdon, Wright, Hatch et Edson de New York).
Le musée postal national américain est un musée consacré à l’histoire de la Poste des Etats-Unis et de la philatélie. Il est ouvert depuis 1993 dans la capitale fédérale Washington, USA. Il se trouve dans le bâtiment historique de l’ancien bureau de poste principal de Washington utilisé de 1914 à 1986. Il abrite de nombreuses collections, artefacts et bien sûr la collection philatélique nationale qui existe depuis 1886. Le musée est le fruit d’un accord en 1990 entre l‘United Postal Service, opérateur postal historique des USA et la Smithsonian Institution.
Aujourd’hui le Smithsonian National Postal Museum est fréquenté par 360 000 visiteurs par an. Il dispose d’un centre de recherche et d’une bibliothèque. L’entrée est gratuite comme les 17 autres musées du Smithsonian de la capitale fédérale.

During the exhibition Monacophil 2022, the Art of Engraved Stamp association ran a booth promoting philatelic creations and intaglio engraving. On this occasion, Daniel Piazza, the chief philatelic curator and American historian of the Smithsonian National Postal Museum, Washington DC, USA, became a member of the association.
The National Postal Museum showed a rare philatelic item at the Monacophil exhibition : the 12 pence of Canada representing the Queen Victoria in 1851 – in intaglio printing, printed by the Rawdon, Wright, Hatch and Edson company in New York.
The Smithsonian National Postal Museum is a museum dedicated to the US postal history and philately. It has been open since 1993 in the federal capital city Washington DC, USA. It is located in the historic building of the former main post office in Washington DC used from 1914 to 1986. It contains many collections, artifacts, and of course, the national philatelic collection which has existed since 1886. The museum is the result of a agreement in 1990 between the United Postal Service – which is the historical postal operator of the USA – and the Smithsonian Institution.
Today, 360 000 visitors come to the Smithsonian National Postal Museum each year. It holds a research center and a library. Admission is free, as in the other 17 Smithsonian museums in the federal capital city.
